Annebelle Basson

My name is Annebelle Basson and I was born in the mother city of Cape Town, South Africa. In 2010 I completed my studies in Travel & Hospitality Management where after I decided to set off on my solo travels. I visited several African countries in search of new cultural experiences and to work at various Safari Game Lodges. My first visit to Malawi took place in 2014, it was love at first sight. The spectacular lush landscapes and the warmth I felt from the Malawian people set off a spark within my heart & soul and I was certain that this was not going to be my first and last visit.

In 2016 I set off to join the yachting industry to work as a stewardess. This experience allowed me to travel the world and save money whilst expanding my cultural knowledge and sharpen my networking abilities.

I began manifesting my dream of becoming a humanitarian in 2018 when the idea of starting a Non-Profit Organization came to life as the beauty of Malawi had always followed in my heart and in I knew that this was where my dream would take to fruition. And so the beautifully challenging journey began and Chituka Youth Organization was born!

I am David Chirwa, born and raised in the Malawian Southern district of Lilongwe. I studied Business and Project Management at the City Varsity College in South Africa and also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Entrepreneurship at the African Business Institute. I hold other qualifications in Computer Education, Leadership, and Community Development. Over the years I have worked for different Organizations based in Malawi and abroad focusing mainly on Youth Programming, Food Security and Resilience, HIV/AIDS, and Sexual & Reproductive Health.

I see myself as a developer of programs for sustainable development and growth for communities. Integrity, hard work, diligence, and honesty, are the most effective tools that I use to achieve all set goals in this extremely challenging industry.

I enjoy playing soccer in my downtime as well as adventurous hikes and reading. Another thing that keeps me going is the continuous opportunity to learn something new through our daily life experiences and the places we travel to. The most important gifts we have to offer one another in this world…. love, care and kindness.

I have been granted the privilege to serve as a board member and youth mentor at Chituka Youth Organization where by I am responsible for planning youth educational excursions and foreseeing that incoming donations such as school supplies and  gift hampers are honestly distributed.

I offer youth counseling and frequently attend board meetings at our local Secondary School that aim to address the immediate needs of the scholars and ways to improve grades and attendance.

There is a constant need to uplift the rural communities of Malawi, therefore I strive to be a part of the ongoing mission to create a better future for our youth.
